Trust Me?!
I often have people message me and confide in me on Instagram and TikTok. I don’t know what it is, but every so often I get messages of trauma and even self-harm.
I ain’t no psychologist but I try to answer most of these questions with…
I hear you.
I understand.
I’ll listen.
You need to talk to a professional.
All I can do is to make sure that they know I listened. I tried to help by not doing anything more but listening. They often start with, “Can I share something with you, mister?” It would be rude to say No. Often people will ask me for money and I do not reply. Delete, delete, and move on.
Sometimes It’s Interesting
Like my series about the Lost Women Of Bali, I get to meet some interesting characters and this is a side to social media that many will not understand.
I have said this before, many people will think they know me, or like me because they always watch me or my content. Unfortunately, sometimes this can go sideways. Yet most of the time it is easy to mitigate the circumstances and people will go away, or give up.
But then there are those that come back.
Sometimes people message, message, and message some more until I am like ok, I am nice but hey, this is too much. They go away only to resurface a month or two later and say hello once more. Usually this time it is with less intensity.
Let’s Talk
Mental health and mental illnesses are now suddenly everywhere because people feel they have mental illness or bad mental health. Unfortunately, for the younger generation, this can be as simple as someone not liking a post or their hair being out of place that morning.
I don’t mean to undermine the mental health issue as I have seen family members and individuals go through this. I have my ex-wife as an example of it as well with mental health and addiction issues, so chill. However, many so-called cases are nothing more than people having too much time on their hands and not having a job, etc. This can lead to mental health issues of course, but you know what I mean. So in the end, I listen and sort out the worst cases and do my best to listen and help if I can. But the point is, people trust me with the craziest things and I often wonder why 🙂
