John Doe vs Evil
Zsemba is my family’s last name and we are proud of it. This book is about my family, but that is not what we will touch on today. Nope, this is about much more. Many quotes are floating around in the world about doing good, caring, and karma. This dawned on me in my last blog.
How our family business changed the lives of thousands of people. When our last name was spoken, people knew who we were in the furniture industry. They still remember us and they still welcome us with open arms.
However, I am going to talk about the employees. For one, most of our leaders and managers were women. This was partly because we found them more reliable, and more accountable and my mom, Ann Zsemba was the owner of this business.
So, you see…
My parents held down two jobs for decades and waited for the business to grow. Waiting and working hard to grow our little businesses to be able to sustain two incomes. This didn’t happen overnight. However, as it did, we grew quickly and expanded very fast from our basement to a small unit and then took off like a bat out of hell.
However, we always needed amazing employees. This is one thing that most business owners forget. Without them, you are a ship without a sail and dead in the water. You are the coach of a team without players, and you are at a standstill.
There is always a compromise and problems between staff and owners. Sure, we can agree to disagree on salaries and methods of production and so forth.
In the end though.
Our name and our reputation with our staff and suppliers were always amazing. Knowing we changed lives and had the ability to destroy them as well is interesting to think about. I mean, if we hired a young man and he learned a trade with us, he flourished. He got married and bought a car and provided for his family. Same with the many moms we who gave birth to little ones and yes, brought them back to work after maternity leave. Watching the kids come in and visit was incredible. Never did we openly yell at any employee, and never did we leave people hanging. In this case, I must say yes, we changed lives, and while this is a follow-up to my previous blog… It is a feel-good blog because I know we did well.
