The Rudeness Of It All

The Rude People

There certainly isn’t a shortage of rude, crude, ignorant assholes in this world. There is an abundance of stupid people as well. Of course, you and I are not part of the ignorant, stupid bunch. No, you and I are the smart ones, I hope. You must be if you are reading my rant right.

A recent discussion with an Indonesian friend of mine brought up certain demographics of people who seem to be the rudest bunch of tourists. This comes as no surprise to me since a huge percentage of Bali jobs are hospitality-based. This blog was brought on by a video that went viral on Instagram, and I thought I would follow up.

The Code in Bali

There is a saying that goes like this, “Pack your patience when coming to Bali” I am sure that applies all over the world, and well, why not? Most places you travel to, you travel by plane, train, or automobile. Most places will have lineups for this and that. However, in Bali, we need not forget the traffic. With everyone running one way or another for tourism, things get a little heated and I don’t mean that because of the weather. The weather can also wear down a person and affect their mental health. By that I mean patience can run a little thin especially when one is tired, hungry, or dehydrated. So, pack your patience and common sense.

The video I mentioned, shows a security camera capturing a Bule beating a local quite badly. The story went something like this. The local asked about the rented scooter and the Bule went to town on the local man.

Too Many Issues

Like everywhere else in the world, the pressures of life do not escape you in Bali. Some have come here to escape wars back home. Some have come here for a fresh start and thus that does not mean your problems here or back home vanish.

Many tourists who wish to stay in Bali are stretching themselves thin financially and their mental well-being. This level of frustration can lead to anger and disappointment. The pressure of business, life, and the Indonesian way can often lead one to unforeseen circumstances. I imagine many foreigners cannot get used to the laid-back ways of Bali life. Many come here for instant riches based on the business they have created. This is not the case, this is not the wild, wild west and one cannot run in here like a bull in a china shop. The bull will be castrated very quickly, you will run with your tail between your legs if you still have it. So, take it easy and chill while in Bali, otherwise it may be the most memorable trip you have taken, and not in a good way.

Zsolt Zsemba

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
