The Long Trip Back!

Try not to do it last minute.

Much longer than it should! That is the short answer. Alright, maybe I should not complain as many wish they could be taking a flight to Canada, no matter the length of the trip. But I will complain anyway. This was a rather last-minute trip due to some scheduling problems with my social media accounts scheduling issues.

Three weeks for an international trip is a pain in the butt. The ticket prices that used to be $1700 to 2000 Canadian dollars are now between $3000-$5000 post-pandemic. Oh yeah, it’s pretty stupid if you ask me. But what can we do, I had to leave to renew my work visa, and being a bit last minute, I paid the price. Oh, and those are economy seats… Anything better is into the 6-9k bracket and I am sorry but I ain’t paying that.

Where do I go?

Well for one, flying out of Bali is a bit pricier than flying from Jakarta or Singapore. However, by the time you add in the extra flights and the hotel costs, plus food and taxi, there is not much of a savings.

Plus I don’t know about you, I hate the in and out of airports, security and the exit and entrance through immigration and security alone is a major bummer.

Thus I booked my ticket and off I went… With several stops this time. Usually, I get away with one stop. Qatar, Japan, or Taipei. However, this being last minute I had to do a two-stop trip and so my hours in the air and on the ground will pile up a little.

How long will it take?

It is about 4 hours from Bali to Kuala Lumpur, which is not bad, I leave at 11:30. Daytime flight easy peasy. The next will be from KL to Dubai after a 4 hours layover. This is also doable and time does fly rather quickly.

The flight is 8 hours from KL to Dubai. This one is a little longer and I hope to catch some sleep on the flight before landing in Dubai and taking another 4 hours to board the longest flight of the bunch.

This is the killer flight. 14 hours on the plane and this is where one needs to get as much sleep as possible.

Though the flight and all is usually pretty good, I land at 9 am in Toronto on the weekend and this is a real bummer. Landing at 9 am means I will surely struggle to stay awake and probably have jetlag for a week.

Yes, the 30 hours to get back to Canada will be worth it. Seeing my family and all will make all this worthwhile. As we always say, we learn from our mistakes. In this case my client’s delays. See you on the other side of the world…Follow my TikTok and Instagram for further updates!
