Leave Your Ego at The Door!

Do You Have a Big Ego?

Let’s check out this fascinating word, shall we? Sure, we all know what it means but how does it work? I mean the meaning is one thing but what actually happens when you are having a chat with your ego?

By definition:

a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance.

“a boost to my ego”

Similar: self-esteem, self-importance, self-worth, self-respect, self-conceit, self-image, self-confidence

PSYCHOANALYSIS

the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity.

Let’s talk.

That is the general definition, but it is so much more than that. Some people have a little too much confidence and too much self-importance and they become arrogant assholes.

I have noticed this from a few people that I thought I knew well. In recent days I have noticed that their ego has been getting the better of them and it is quite annoying. Amazing how people change when given a little bit of power. Power means, being a leader of a group and being in charge of certain things. By taking on the role, their ego has grown and let’s say their personality is coming to light. To my surprise things have turned slightly negative and the once-happy group has gone through a change.

Being a Leader

Being a leader is never easy. There need to be hard stops, compassion, understanding and to have the ability to say no with finesse. These traits are learned and honed by experience, you are not born to be a leader. Sure, you can be an Alpha male and be a big brute but that does not mean you are a leader. We are past the caveman types. We need to be smart and wise in today’s politically correct society. Like it or not, shit will happen and how we deal with that shit is where the difference lies.

So when you step into the room, read the room, read your audience, and take it easy. Gauge the room and your peers, read their body language, and see where everyone stands so to speak.

Can you do me a favor?

It’s important to prioritize kindness, empathy, and compassion above all else. Before focusing on your own ego and self-importance, consider the needs of others. We never truly know what someone else might be going through, and sometimes all they need is a kind word rather than your opinion or judgment. Don’t let your ego control your actions – instead, think about how your words and behavior will impact those around you. It can be difficult at times, but with effort and mindfulness, it’s possible to prioritize others over yourself.
