Zoom Class Plan: Sentence Extension & Fill-in-the-Blanks
1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)
- Quick icebreaker: Ask everyone to share a funny or unusual sentence about their morning.
Example: “This morning, I accidentally put ___ in my coffee instead of sugar.” (students fill in with silly answers).
2. Sentence Extension Game (15 minutes)
- Start with a short sentence on screen:
“The cat jumped on the table.” - Each student adds one word or short phrase to extend it, taking turns.
Example:- Student A: “The cat jumped on the table and knocked over…”
- Student B: “…a glass of milk that splashed onto…”
- Student C: “…my homework, which was already…”
- Keep going until it becomes a wild, funny paragraph.
- Highlight grammar points: connectors (and, but, because), descriptive adjectives, action verbs.
3. Fill-in-the-Blanks Challenge (15 minutes)
You share short stories or dialogues with blanks. Students guess the missing words.
Option A: Funny Story Blanks
“Yesterday I went to the market to buy ___, but instead I found a ___ wearing a ___.”
Option B: Real-Life Dialogues
- Teacher: “Excuse me, where is the nearest ___?”
- Student: “It’s next to the ___.”
Encourage multiple answers — both serious and silly.
4. Speed Round: Fast Blanks (10 minutes)
- Share quick one-line sentences with missing words.
Example:- “I like to eat ___ for breakfast.”
- “The best movie I saw this year was ___.”
- “If I had a million dollars, I would buy ___.”
- Students type their answers in the chat for speed and fun.
- Read out the funniest/most creative ones.
5. Creative Writing Wrap-Up
- Students make a mini story using 3 sentences with at least 2 fill-in-the-blank prompts.
- Example starter: “One night, I heard ___ outside my window. When I looked, I saw ___ holding a ___. I decided to ___.”
- Each group shares their story.
