Get A Stupid Answer!
As my social media grows, I have been getting more and more confrontational messages. This I will assume is normal since not everyone is going to be a fan, right?
So when they ask a stupid question I generally reply with sarcasm and witty answer turning things around on them. With say 80% of my followers defending me, things usually turn out quite well. On the other hand, many of the followers are careful about what they comment on since they know everyone can see the comments. What I generally get a kick out of and what makes this fun, are the conversations that go on behind the scenes.
The Comments Section
Yup, many people read or troll the comment section. Things get heated and out of hand when they get into it. Not only is this good for content but it is also good for viewers and followers.
Because of the many conservative-thinking individuals here, sometimes it is difficult to see the forest from the trees. A joke on the one hand can turn into an insult on the other. This is clear and very evident in certain areas of Indonesia.
Jakarta and Bali are much more liberal than other areas of Indonesia. This goes for dressing in certain ways to the way people act and react. This makes sense as these areas are also the areas more frequented by tourists.
Ex-pat Workers
The fun stuff happens when locals and foreigners work together and they teach the sarcasm and wordplay to the locals. The Indonesian language is quite simple and straightforward. But when we take wordplay into the TikTok live, for example, very few locals get it. The ones that do get a kick out of it, knowing that no one else may have gotten the joke I just said.
This influx of expats and this way of thinking expands the local mind.
Many are not thought to think in the ways that the North Americans do. On the other hand simple language and often simple interaction go a long way in getting things done. There is no beating around the bush. Do it, want it, need it and there is no “would you kindly process the data at your earliest convenience” No, it’s just do it, get it, eat it, and move on.
So the ask a stupid question and get a stupid answer post didn’t do too well. People didn’t get it, but I hope to educate them on sarcasm.
