A Direct Message to, Perpustakaan Nasional Indonesia

While I worked for MD Pictures/MD Entertainment in Jakarta I was also in charge of RDM Publishing. With books such as Layangan Putus and My Lecturer My Husband being huge hits and being made into movies, I have some experience in the publishing field. Now that I have been in the process of publishing my book, Gerobak 777 I have some further insight.

Perpustakaan Nasional Indonesia is the organization in charge of book registration. That would be the ISBN for all books that are to be published and sold in Indonesia.

So what is the process?

Well, it’s kind of like applying for a Visa at the US Embassy. It is easy, but it is not and individuals and certain documents play a role in to how this information is processed. But this is a book and not a threat to immigration or national security so this should be simple. Moreover, individuals cannot publish books in Indonesia. They need to have a publisher, unlike in North America.

Currently, it is as such.

  1. Application letter with stamp.
  2. Letter of authenticity.
  3. Title
  4. Blurb/synopsis
  5. Cover
  6. Contents
  7. Book mock-up
  8. Link to the online store
  9. Price of the book
  10. Link to publisher/writer website
  11. Publishers company profile

Get the links ready.

These links make sense but don’t. No one wants to reveal a book cover, or the contents of the book prior to launch. So authors beware that your book info may be leaked.

The process is certainly not a private one!

All these need to be linked to one Google Drive link with the contents inside. So the people at Perpustakaan Nasional Indonesia can access all of these links individually. All links must be live and accessible (not private or needing permission to access).

Now this was my process, this is what got me the ISBN number from Perpustakaan Nasional Indonesia. I am not sure if this is standard for everyone but this is what we had to do.

All this was a hell of a task because the instructions kept changing when they got back to us after 2-3 days each time a change was made. Feel free to tweet at them as I did on the following account @perpusnas1 if you need any further help!

Zsolt Zsemba

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
