What is love?

Let’s have a lovely conversation about love…

No, not the famous song, but in general? A recent chat with friends brought up the famous “unconditional love” topic. My reply was, only a dog and a mother can love unconditionally.

Well, this sparked a debate, so let’s see what you think. It is so easy to say I love you. Or even easier to say, I love a burger, a shirt, a dress, or another person but how about true love? What does it even mean? Well for one, it means deep, deep warm fuzzy feelings for someone that is often confused with lust.

Or if you happen to be on the insane side of the spectrum you may love someone to the point of obsession. I guess that is also unconditional love but of a different kind.

I Love You.

I get this all the time on TikTok from people that may love me at the moment but do not know me very well. You may or may not love me once you get to know me. However, it sure is easy to say I love you without having to live with and put up with another person full-time. When the lust and love diminish it will all come down to communication, understanding, and compromise. To me, this is what love is…

Communication, Understanding, and Compromise.

It is a matter of fact… When the honeymoon phase is over and the days of endless sex are behind us it comes down to other exploratory activities. All you have left is the communication, the understanding, and the compromise in making daily life work with someone. Hopefully, you have lasting feelings for this person and the communication, understanding, and compromise can keep you together.

Unconditional Love

I love this one… Have you ever asked someone for a favor or money after you’ve asked them for advice? Have you ever committed a crime or something terrible? Your mom and your dog would probably be the only two by your side. Okay, it could be your dad or your brother but most likely it is your mom or possibly a spouse if you are lucky.

To love someone despite their terrible deeds is a tough call. A dog will wag its tail through thick and thin, even if you have not fed it for a day or two. Hopefully, you take care of the dog but a dog will love you even after you pass on.

Some dogs mourn until they die and wait for their owners at the door or the train station. This is a love you will never ever, ever find in life. However, if you have a better story please let me know.

This chat I had with friends was very interesting and it was somewhat funny to hear people’s opinions on love. For the most part, falling in love is easy. In the end, it is something we need to work at and work on nearly every day. However, I ain’t no expert so let’s hear your thoughts.

Zsolt Zsemba

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
