The Changi Experience 2
So far with all the amazingness, this airport is nothing but average. It’s the same line-ups and check-ins as everywhere else with the exception of having lots of space to do all the waiting and checking in.
Maybe if I were to fly Singapore Airlines my experience would have been improved? I don’t think so. My expectation from what I had heard was far below the reality before me. The airport staff was rude. When I complained, no one said sorry. They said it’s not our fault, please write an online review. Yup, that’s what the staff said. I was left unimpressed.
Heated “HOT” Toilet Seat
Yes, can you imagine this…The bathrooms were clean, but they were clean in Qatar, Canada, and Indonesia so no brownie points there. I tried hard to find a sit-down restaurant in terminal 4 and there were only a couple that would serve you. I had now had many hours to kill because my flight was delayed.
Oh yes by two hours. Yes, I did have notification of this but they knew the night before and two hours is not the fault of the plane being a little late, I was told. After finding a Chinese restaurant I ate, bought some gifts, and did my TikTok Live from the airport.
After my TikTok live I went to the washroom and sat on a very warm toilet seat that kinda of freaked me out. Felt like someone had just gotten off it. This wasn’t the case. I realized that they were heated. A total waste of electricity in my opinion. In Indonesia, most places need to be cooled and a chilly toilet seat usually helps me cool down my sweaty ass. TMI, I know but you needed to know this.
So Then
The final part was a coffee and for whatever reason I couldn’t find a way to the Starbucks across the gorge from my area to the other. I assumed that I needed to walk a bit to find a crosswalk or a bridge, but all there were glass walls that kept teasing me out of a nice cup of coffee across the way. I settled for a less than Starbucks coffee and a slice of chocolate cake. The guy couldn’t remember my cake and my water and I had to remind him 3 times about it.
Then came the boarding process. Ok, can we get something straight? Can the carry-on luggage thing be solved once and for all? Like WTF is it with airlines and people. There is fucking limit to the bags people can bring! A group of men before me were unable to bring their “cute little” suitcases on board because the plane was for one, completely full. Not a single empty seat and of course all the overhead bins were full.
When will the airlines limit the size and the amount of suitcases they can bring on board? Oh, they have you say? Then how about enforcing the damn rules so the boxes and the stupid Duty-free items could be considered as check-in items and no longer carryon?
The boarding process is about as messy as any other place on earth. So what is so good about this airport? Other than the shit loads of money spent on the main attraction there is nothing spectacular except for one other little thing. Their scanners do not require us to take out our laptops from our bags. Mic drop right there Changi! Fuck you as one of the best airports in the world!!
Let’s hope my KITAS process goes better. I have yet to land in Jakarta 🙂
