Sienna 9 of 15

Chapter 9

The confrontation came sooner than they expected. One morning, as they were having breakfast, they heard the sound of a car approaching.

“They’re here,” Rafa said, his voice low.

They stepped outside, and saw the black car parked at the bottom of the hill. Her father’s security team surrounded the cabin, their expressions grim.

Sienna took a deep breath, and stepped forward. “I’ll talk to them,” she said.

Rafa placed a hand on her arm. “I’m coming with you.”

They walked down the hill, their hands clasped tightly. Sienna’s father’s security team parted, and she saw him standing at the front.

“Sienna,” he said, his voice cold. “It’s time to come home.”

“No,” Sienna said, her voice firm. “I’m not going back.”

Her father’s expression hardened. “You have no choice. You belong with us.”

“I belong with myself,” Sienna said. “I’m not your property.”

Her father’s eyes flashed with anger. “You’re making a mistake.”

“No,” Sienna said. “I’m making a choice.”

She turned to Rafa, her eyes filled with love. “And I choose him.”

Rafa squeezed her hand, his expression filled with unwavering support.

Her father’s security team looked at each other, unsure of what to do. They had never seen Sienna stand up to her father before.

Finally, her father spoke. “Fine. But you’ll regret this.”

He turned and walked back to the car, his security team following him. They drove away, leaving Sienna and Rafa standing on the hill.

Sienna let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding.

Rafa glanced at her. “So. That was intense.”

She let out a short laugh, shaking her head. “That was my entire life.”

He reached over, giving her hand a brief, warm squeeze. “It’s over now.”

She looked out the window as the estate disappeared behind them. “Yeah,” she murmured. “It is.”

And it was. She had walked into that house as someone her family could control. She had walked out free.
