Renaming Dundas Square

Toronto City Council has their heads up each other’s asses!

Out of the frying pan and into the fire! So Toronto decides to rename Dundas Square because of the terrible past of Henry Dundas… Right and decides to rename it “Sankofa Square” Something I needed to look up and check… Our multiculturalism is killing Canada and now this. May as well have called it Singh Square… May have been more suitable.

But “Sankofa’s” roots add another layer of complexity to the story. The people who coined the term were highly active participants in the early modern trans-Atlantic slave trade. The Akan-controlled Asante Empire, which held power at the height of the global slave trade in the 18th and 19th centuries, was, in fact, an indispensable supplier of Black slaves to British and Dutch traders. So WTF?

A a cost of $700,000 the Toronto city council, who are clearly a bunch of idiots with their heads up each other’s asses. Going for some African word, that does not separate itself from slavery.

“The word ‘Sankofa’ conveys that it’s never too late to go back and retrieve what you lost,” Edward Akuffo, a Ghanaian-born professor of political science at the University of the Fraser Valley, said in an interview on Monday. Akuffo added that “Sankofa” dovetails nicely with the idea of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians.” Source: National Post

No, it does not dovetail with anything… If we are going to be Canadian about it, let’s choose a word from the local indigenous people of Canada. Not some word associated with slavery from a part of the world that is not Canadian. Oh yeah, they were slaves traded from that part of the world… But when? When Canada still has and continues to have issues with the Indigenous Canadians.

The Point Is…

If we are going to spend a million dollars in renaming something, give it a name that is not smeared in blood. Pick a word for peace and reconciliation from the Canadian natives. Not some word from some part of the world that you fools at the city council think may suit some ass-backward narrative in your puny little freaking heads.

Are there no level-headed politicians who have an ounce of rationale and common sense left? Why is this cancel culture so utterly stupid and blind? Does no one in power have a single brain cell left? Does anyone dare to speak up for the reality that we live in?
