My TikTok Journey: Supporting Small Businesses and Staying True to My Roots

When I started my TikTok account two years ago, my goal was clear. Support my blog while creating impactful content centered around small businesses. I envisioned a platform where I could share the stories of small family-run businesses and offer valuable insights to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Initially, I focused on interviewing small businesses in Bali, Indonesia. This choice wasn’t random; it stemmed from a deep connection to my own upbringing in a family business. I wanted to relate to and highlight the hard work and dedication that goes into running these enterprises. My background as a professional writer allowed me to approach these interviews with a unique perspective. This ensured me that the content was informative and engaging.

Memorable Moments

One of the most memorable moments from my TikTok journey was my first interview with Bu Arick, a small businesswoman who managed to support her family after the pandemic. Her story was incredibly inspiring, and it reinforced my dedication to showcasing such resilient entrepreneurs.

Keeping content fresh is always a challenge. At times, I realize I’ve strayed from my original focus, and it’s a reminder to get back to my roots. To keep my audience engaged, I continually strive to highlight local businesses and maintain a tone of honesty and openness. This approach has been crucial in growing my TikTok following.

Handling negative feedback or criticism comes with the territory. Fortunately, negativity is rare on my platform, but when it does occur, it tends to be on TikTok live sessions. With the help of moderators, I’m able to manage it effectively, ensuring it doesn’t impact me significantly.

Pick Your Battle

For anyone looking to start a TikTok account focused on business, my advice is simple: pick a niche and run with it. Stay committed to your vision and don’t be afraid to dive deep into your chosen subject area.

Looking ahead, my goal is to return to more serious topics. While there’s nothing wrong with fun and light-hearted content, my passion lies in making a difference through meaningful discussions about business and entrepreneurship. By staying true to this mission, I hope to continue supporting and inspiring small business owners across the globe.

Zsolt Zsemba

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
