The Light.
I may have been imagining, but I am unsure, I jumped to my feet and so did Steve. He panicked at my irrational movement and looked in my direction. Yes, we both saw it. It was a whisper of light. Yes, a whisper, like glowing white cotton candy. A floating cloud of light in the dark. It was similar to a burning torch but it leapt far ahead of us horizontally and not up and down vertically as a torch would. My eyes stared to see the motion of the whisps of light. Slowly it got closer and closer…
It seemed to be a hundred meters away but on occasion maybe as close as twenty meters. Steve and I looked at each other in concern.
What secrets does this jungle hold and what secrets does it hide? It seemed that we were about to find out.
The lights were now getting closer, the rumble started up, and as we looked around we noticed the lights and the rumble had us surrounded. No matter where looked the whisps of light were everywhere. Though they were not lighting up the forest. They were self-contained and not like a flashlight that throws its beam in the direction it is pointed. Steve and I stared at each other, locked eyes in the sense of, we are screwed.
The lights were now closer, surrounding us in a net. Getting ready for the catch of the day in the net of puffy glowing clouds that were no longer far off in the distance. In a matter of seconds, the deep rumble we heard also grew in volume. This was now a sensory overload of epic proportions and these two men were certainly not brave enough to fight off whatever this was. because we didn’t know how to fight something that we had no clue what it was.
By now the entities were less than five meters away and had dimmed to such a low volume of light that they became dark clouds of puffy stuff. They came closer and closer and began physically bumping into us. Initially, it didn’t hurt but then the swarm came in for the kill.
