The Tunnel
We entered the forest once more. The canopy of the forest not only closed in on us but felt cold. Not cooler than the cabin area but cold. Dark and cold is never a positive sign I thought to myself. I followed Putu and we headed deeper and deeper into the valley before us. I didn’t remember any of this whatsoever.
Then the question arose in my head. If I were this far down and so far from the cabin, how did I get to the cabin in the first place? Maybe I walked… I was too busy keeping an eye out for potential predators and the leeches, shit the leeches. Here was Putu walking in bare feet, and I was worried about the leeches. Maybe all that was a dream as well? Questioning my sanity once more I decided to worry about staying alive and on track with Putu. I stepped where he stepped and so forth.
None of this was familiar to me. This was all new and while I am sure I had been here before; I also knew I must have been unconscious at the time.
No matter, we were searching for Steve and that was important. The further down we went the more I was convinced that there must be another way to the cabin. I was twice the size of Putu and if he found me here, he would have needed help. The man could not be that strong.
When we got down to the bottom of what now seemed like a gorge rather than a valley, we came to a large rock. The rock had to be at least one and a half meters wide and two meters in height. This thing was huge. The end of the road I thought to myself. But oh, how wrong I was…
Putu leaned into the rock and with not much effort pushed the rock out of the way to reveal a cave. Or was it a walkway, a bypass, a tunnel maybe. With each moment I needed to question myself. I was crazy, I was sane, I was crazy, I was sane. We didn’t waste any time, we entered the tunnel and immediately I saw a light at the end. It was far but I could see the light.
