Mount Merbuk, Lost-Part 12.

Saved?

Not being able to raise the phone to my ears, I picked up the call and put it on speakerphone. It was my friend Janet from the hotel we stayed at… “Where have you been, I have been trying to reach you and Steve for over a week.

The thought of a week of my life slipping away from me was overwhelming. The fact that Steve had been dead for over a week and his body decomposing or being eaten by God knows what made me ill. “A week?” is all I could muster up as Janet continued. “Yes over a week, what the hell happened to you guys, are you two ok? The police refused to help because we had no clue where to even start looking for you guys…”

As Janet rambled on and on about the effort to look for us and the remote location of our trip and hike I realized we messed up. We should have listened when people told us not to enter this part of the forest. They warned us of the danger and we didn’t listen. As Janet continued, I pressed the “send current location” in the chat, seconds later the battery went dead and the stillness of the moment was all I could comprehend.

Laying back and getting as comfortable as I could. I knew my life had been spared. The sound of the trumpet was a warning and the solution to the entities in the forest. Steve didn’t make it and I had barely managed to recover with the help of the old man and the woman. I then drifted off to sleep once more. Knowing full well that help is on the way and that despite not having the slightest clue as to where I am, it may be a day or even two for them to find me.

I knew that after that, the number one priority would be to go back to that location during the day. Find Steve or whatever was left of him and somehow thank this lovely old couple for nursing me back to health and saving me. Not being one to believe in ghosts and spirits, I knew I had to rethink and try and make sense of what had happened. Knowing that this man and woman must know much more about the forest and its spiritual entities. I too need to know more to understand Steve’s death.
