The Truth
Once I stared into your eyes
Saw them twinkle, shining bright
I dreamed of all that life could be
Fell in love, the world felt right
No matter what, I couldn’t fight
You could do no wrong to me
That’s how love was meant to be
Tears and sorrow came one day
Yet laughter chased the pain away
Love was all I had to gain
Until the moment truth appeared
The evil in you reared its head
The veil was lifted, clear to see
Two faces staring back at me
I stood in silence, filled with dread
You were not the one I once knew
Harshness lingered in your voice
Your eyes no longer held their light
A dark shadow has claimed your soul
And I could bear no more that night
So I turned and walked away
Head hung low, my spirit sore
Life had failed me once more
You’re not the person I thought I knew
And I regret I didn’t know
That’s why they say that love is blind
