Hope For The Best.
While there is hope for better and well-produced films, I hope that with all the interest from investors will raise the quality of movies without necessarily blowing up the movie budget. How can that be you ask? Most movie budgets are well padded by the people in the companies taking cuts.
We can and should call it kickbacks. I scratch your back and you scratch mine. Why is it that one budget for car allowance or car rental is 20% higher than the other? Why does catering vary 30% from one shoot to another? Why is the equipment cost inflated so much from one shoot to another? It is simple and it is Indonesia. So when some, or all the kinks and kickbacks get worked out (They will never be eradicated) the cost of movie budgets will stabilize. This takes time. After Covid, everyone was hungry, desperate, and eager to get back to work. Let’s hope that this battle is behind us.
Make Good Movies!
When a script is shit, we all suffer. When a crap movie is made the industry suffers. The overselling of a shit movie is the worst thing in the movie industry. Great hype to hopefully fill the seats, prayer to make your money back, and run to make the next crap movie.
Why…
Most movies are funded by investors and rarely does a production house fund the entire movie, they get the money back and investors sometimes are at a loss. Shit happens, on to the next one, we hope to do better and give us more money. Once people smarten up and investors educate themselves better movies will be made.
So Why?
So why all the interest in the Indonesian movies? As I ventured off course in the past 2 blogs I’ll get back on track. The thousands of islands in Indonesia will still need malls as online shopping is not always entertaining. With parkgoers not being as prominent in Jakarta for example it is kind of the same elsewhere in Indonesia. It is hot, so people usually venture out in the morning or night and a picnic is not the best form of entertainment in a tropical country. Malls are being built, so theatres and entertainment areas are and will be on the rise.
The would-be investors are asking about the post-production facilities, how the movie is made, and how the crews are involved. After all, remember that this is not Hollywood. There are no major backlots, no huge sets being made for a sci-fi movie, and no space movies. There is little to no interest in that at the moment. However, the facilities are here to make good movies. CGI is not a strong suit of the industry here but it is getting better.
