Indonesian Movie Industry. Take 2

So Why All the Interest?

So why is there so much interest in the Indonesian Movie? Well, it is because despite me annihilating the industry in the first part, I will praise it a little in the second. No, I will not give it an A or an A plus but will give it a C+.

The number one reason for the interest is simple. It’s a growing industry and thank goodness an improving one.

As with most people I consult with I tell them this. It is no secret that Indonesians love movies. It is still one of the cheaper forms of entertainment out there.

Indonesians are mall-going people. Unlike most people in North America, who will go to the mall in their pyjamas, Indonesians get all done up, hair makeup and nails, the works, and head to the mall. This is an event, it is a thing to look good and be seen. Looking good and take the most amazing selfies at the theatres.

The Market is Huge

It is a growing Market, it is an evolving market and investors know this. Yes, they pay me to consult them and give them my view on certain things that are more detailed than I am mentioning here but I am happy to hear it.

I will critique films, and fall asleep on many because they suck, but there have been some gems out there and slowly the Indonesian Movie Industry is coming back. Is there room for improvement? Oh hell yes, a C grade will not get you anywhere in life. As long as certain production houses up the game, others have no choice but to up theirs. So looking at the Industry from the outside in, things seem to be getting better. The population of Indonesia is demanding better movies. They are also getting smarter.

Smarter is The Key

A few years ago many, many crappy movies became hits. It was mostly because something was different and not because it was well-made or amazingly directed. These movies were the same as rolling the dice in Vegas and hitting the jackpot.

When there is little choice, you go with the best option possible and so those movies were a hit. However, the audience is getting smarter and will not go see a crap movie. I am glad this is happening, a movie made in three months from start to finish will look exactly as shitty as you would picture a movie that can be made in three months. As the Indonesian C and D classes get smarter the A and B classes may venture into the movie theatre as well to get a taste of the slightly better and more entertaining offerings out there.

Zsolt Zsemba

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
