Do We Want More?

What Does Bali Need?

Do we want sustainable tourists? Or do we want crazy irresponsible tourists?

A number of Balinese express their frustration on social media about the disrespectful and disruptive behavior of a very small portion of tourists, behavior that leaves a negative impression on the local community.

But it is certainly also important to recognize that the vast majority of tourists who visit Bali do so with a deep appreciation for the unique and beautiful culture and traditions of the island.
They learn about Hinduism and Balinese culture and witness traditional ceremonies and interact with the local community in a respectful and meaningful way.

This is also the case here in the village of Tumbu (east Bali) where there are a number of projects to teach tourists about the cultural wisdom of the Balinese people. It is crucial to recognize and celebrate the positive impact that these culturally sustainable tourists have on the local community. Their strong interest in learning and preserving the wisdom and traditions of the Balinese people contributes to the sustainability of the island’s cultural heritage.

The quality of tourists depends greatly on the offer we give them.
