Conversational English

Why Conversational English is So Important

English is a global language that connects people from different cultures, backgrounds, and countries. It is the most widely spoken and learned language in the world, and it is used for communication, education, business, entertainment, and more. But learning English is not only about memorizing grammar rules and vocabulary words. It is also about being able to use the language in real-life situations, such as having a conversation with a friend at the beach.

Person A and B are at the beach, enjoying the warm weather.

A: This is so nice. I’m happy we came here. It’s been a long time since we had a relaxing day like this.

B: Me too. I missed spending time with you. You always make me feel calm and happy. A: How’s work? You have a presentation soon, right?

B: Yeah, it’s next week. It could solve our energy problems by providing clean, safe, and unlimited power for the world.

A: That’s awesome. You’re doing great work. I’m so proud of you.

B: Thanks. It’s hard, but worth it. I’m passionate about it. And I have you to support me.

A: And I have you to support me too. You always listen to me and understand me. You’re my best friend.

Conversational English is the ability to speak and understand English in everyday contexts, such as expressing your feelings, opinions, preferences, and needs. It is also the ability to listen and respond to others in a natural and appropriate way. Conversational English is important for several reasons:

  • It helps you build relationships with other people. When you can communicate with someone in their native language, you can show respect, interest, and empathy. You can also share your personal stories, experiences, and emotions. This can create a bond of trust and friendship between you and the other person. For example, in the script above, person A and B are at the beach, enjoying the warm weather. They are able to express their happiness, gratitude, pride, and support for each other. They are also able to listen and understand each other’s feelings and thoughts. They are not only friends but also best friends.
  • It helps you learn more about the world. When you can converse with someone in English, you can access a wealth of information and knowledge that might not be available in your own language. You can also learn about different perspectives, cultures, and values that might challenge or enrich your own worldview. For example, in the script above, person B is working on a presentation that could solve the world’s energy problems by providing clean, safe, and unlimited power. Person A is able to learn about this amazing project and appreciate its importance and impact. They are also able to share their own passion and work with person B.
  • It helps you achieve your goals. When you can speak English fluently and confidently, you can open up many opportunities for yourself in terms of education, career, travel, and personal growth. You can also overcome challenges and difficulties that might arise along the way. For example, in the script above, person B has a presentation next week that could be crucial for their work. Person A is able to support them and encourage them to do their best. They are also able to offer their own advice and feedback if needed.

Conversational English is not something that you can master overnight. It takes time, practice, and patience to improve your skills and confidence. But it is also something that you can enjoy and have fun with. You can practice conversational English by talking to native speakers or other learners online or offline, watching movies or shows in English with subtitles or without subtitles (depending on your level), reading books or articles in English that interest you (and looking up words you don’t know), listening to podcasts or music in English (and repeating phrases or lyrics), writing messages or comments in English on social media or blogs (and checking your grammar or spelling), playing games or quizzes in English (and learning new words or expressions), or joining clubs or groups that focus on topics or hobbies that you like (and sharing your opinions or ideas).

Conversational English is not only a skill that you need to learn. It is also a gift that you can give yourself and others. It can help you connect with people from all over the world, learn more about the world around you, and achieve your dreams and aspirations. So don’t be afraid to start a conversation in English today. You never know where it might lead you tomorrow!
