Bali Dating: Are You Being Played?
Many women complain about finding a good man. Before you jump to conclusions, hear me out. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: consider what you bring to the table in a relationship before expecting the best from your partner.
Now, let’s get to the topic at hand.
The “Bule Hunters”
There are women who play the field. They complain about men who take advantage of them, yet they cry foul when the situation is reversed. This behavior is wrong on all levels. However, this post focuses on a specific type of player in Bali: the “Bule Hunter.” You might be surprised by how prevalent they are.
While I won’t delve into every scenario, I’ll highlight a few tactics and the surprising role social media plays.
The Tactics
Prostitution is nothing new, but in Bali, it takes a unique form. Women may juggle multiple relationships, asking each man for money for things like nails, hair, and makeup. They flaunt these “gifts” to each man, seeking approval on color and style. Ultimately, three men (or more) might be funding these expenses.
Even a small sum like 1 million Rupiah (around $100 Canadian) makes a significant difference when the average Balinese salary is 3-4 million Rupiah. Considering accommodation costs nearly half that, there’s little left for other necessities like food and transportation.
The Lure of Caucasian Tourists
Life is tough for many young Indonesian women. However, Bali offers an advantage other Indonesian cities don’t: Caucasian tourists who come and go (sometimes staying longer). These men become the prize – a chance to be financially supported and treated well. It’s essentially having a boyfriend who helps you save money.
Beyond Basic Needs
The perks extend beyond necessities. Imagine bar drinks, dinners, and even weekend getaways. These experiences are expensive in high-end places, but on a date, they paint a picture of a luxurious lifestyle, even if the woman is ultimately a “low-time whoer” (using a less inflammatory term might be more constructive).
The Social Media Facade
For local women, drinks at bars are generally out of reach. They might splurge occasionally, but not regularly. These “Bule Hunters” take advantage of this disparity. Knowing the men will likely leave Bali eventually, they exploit their kindness. In return, they offer companionship, feigning affection, and sometimes even a fake relationship. This is the reality of dating in Bali for some men: a high chance of being played.
So Then:
This isn’t to say all women in Bali are like this. There are genuine connections to be found. However, being aware of these tactics can help you navigate the dating scene in Bali with more caution.
