Just Be You!
Part-4 – https://wp.me/p84YjG-5H7
Being an introvert, and then being on camera and opening up, has only one takeaway for me: be yourself. Be the best version of yourself that you can be.
Because soon, you realize that people get to know you for who you are. And when they meet you in real life, you should be the same person they see on camera.
Social media, to me, is not acting like you’re on film. Social media is you not portraying someone that you’re not. If you portray someone who you are not, you’re lying to yourself.
The Face You Show the World
In some cases, people put out their alter ego, a face they want others to see. And while that may work for them, that’s fine. That’s just my opinion. When people meet me, I want them to meet me. When people see me online, I want them to know that’s really me. Standing behind my opinions, standing behind what I’ve said or written, is important.
Agree, Disagree, Still Respect
We don’t need to agree on everything. We don’t even need to discuss certain things. We can agree to disagree and still be friends. The point of it all, in my opinion, is that social media should reflect who you are. Many people put on a face. Some stop being themselves. Sometimes comedians are not exactly funny people. They’re serious, deep, and have strong opinions.
I don’t want to be someone else. For me, my face, values, friends, and followers are all part of being true to myself.
No Pretending
I don’t want to pretend. I don’t want to try to remember what I said or didn’t say, what lie I told, or what compliment I gave that I didn’t mean. I want to be me. And that’s what I realized from this introvert-to-extrovert experience. It’s important to be authentic. When people see me, I’m not being rude to others. I’m not being someone else that I portrayed differently on TikTok Live or on my Instagram or Facebook account.
No Walking on Eggshells
I don’t want to walk on eggshells, trying to remember things I may have said on TikTok Live that I didn’t mean. That makes no sense to me. My journey and my takeaway from all this is simple: be yourself. You’ll find many like-minded people who agree with you and befriend you. And you’ll also find many who won’t like you, just because they don’t like your face.
Social Media Can Be Turned Off
The thing is, social media can be turned off. Comments on TikTok Live, comments on posts—nearly all platforms let you delete them. But to me, if you stand behind what you say and have fun with it, you’ll be just fine.
Have Fun With It
And that brings me to the next point: just have fun with social media.
If you’re out there screaming, ranting, yelling, and judging people, you’re going to get a lot of flak. That’s not necessarily good for anyone. But if that’s your style and you want to create chaos, go ahead. Just remember that it comes with consequences.
Not to say you can’t have an opinion. But the way you put forth your opinion matters.
For me, social media is fun and interesting. That was my takeaway from the whole experience of opening myself up, peeling away the layers like an onion, and exposing who I am. What the future holds for me on social media, I’m not sure. But it helped me expand my horizons.
