Back in Jakarta!

A Celebration of Chaos and Charm

As I prepare to touch down in Jakarta on August 27th, I can’t help but reminisce about my first arrival in this vibrant metropolis six years ago. It feels like yesterday when I stepped off the plane, wide-eyed and ready to start my new job as COO at MD Pictures on August 1st. Little did I know then how much this city would captivate me.

Jakarta, often maligned for its pollution and traffic, has a magnetic pull that’s hard to resist. It’s a city that never sleeps, much like New York, with a pulsating energy that courses through its veins 24/7. The constant hum of motorbikes, the colorful taxi’s weaving through traffic, and the towering skyscrapers create a uniquely Jakarta backdrop that I’ve grown to love.

Yes, the traffic can be maddening, and the air quality leaves much to be desired. But there’s something about the hustle and bustle of Jakarta that ignites a spark in me every time I visit. It’s in the warm smiles of street vendors, the aromatic wafts from warungs, and the gleaming lights of the city at night.

What truly makes Jakarta special, though, is its people. The friendliness and resilience of Jakartans never cease to amaze me. Whether it’s sharing a laugh with a Gojek driver or engaging in animated discussions with colleagues, the human connection in this city is unparalleled.

As I return for this mini-celebration of my Jakarta anniversary, I’m looking forward to reconnecting with old friends, revisiting favorite haunts, and discovering new corners of this ever-evolving city. From the trendy cafes of Kemang to the historical charm of Kota Tua, Jakarta always has something new to offer.

Here’s to six years of memories, friendships, and personal growth in Jakarta. May this visit remind me of why I fell in love with this chaotic, charming city in the first place. Jakarta, see you soon!

Zsolt Zsemba

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
