An amazing father-and-son moment in life…
I don’t share too many deep personal stories on my blog. However, let’s let this one slide in. This is a cool story, and yes, it is my son’s birthday on February 1st! The RX-7 is now a legend. I am happy I got to own one. Here is a short story and our memories of our RX-7!
There I was one day, planning to buy a car, a fun car, something unique and interesting. I wasn’t sure what I was going to buy. I didn’t know what I was going to get. However, I knew I wanted something different. I started browsing the internet and yes this was not an overnight thing. I was always into cars, and I came across this ad for an RX-7 on eBay. It piqued my interest. I’d never bought anything on eBay ever nor have I ever owned a Mazda. I wasn’t bidding on anything. I was never one for purchasing items on eBay, but there I was. I really thought, I want that car. So I decided I was going to place a bid on this silver RX-7, which would be a JDM vehicle in the Japanese domestic market.

My first bid ever!
And so there I was. I placed a bid. I bought the car. Next thing I know, I was the proud owner of an RX-7. But that’s the beginning of the story. After I bought the car, it was actually a dull early winter day. The vegetation was already dead and grey. It was a typical Canadian late fall day. It wasn’t very pretty, but I decided to go out on a ride with my son.
We drove down Highway 10 in Caledon. A beautiful, picturesque setting for a drive. We were heading onto Forks of the Credit Road in Caledon. Now, this is a famous spot, especially in the fall. It’s mostly known for the amazing curvy roads that suited the RX-7 well. But this was late fall, so the leaves were already fallen down—bare trees, no leaves. As we drove down Highway 10, a couple of younger adults pulled up beside us. They started giving us a thumbs-up, riding beside us, and taking pictures of our car.
So yes, the photo pictured in the blog is my son and I in the car, the picture was taken by somebody else. As we drove through Forks of the Credit, we met up with these people who were car enthusiasts. That day, that day changed my son’s life. I don’t normally write about personal things like this in my blog, but there I was. We met up with these people, and my son became friends with them. They were driving a Honda—I think a Honda Civic.
We became friends—friends on Facebook, my friends became friends on Instagram. And there it was—that day planted a bug in my son’s head. From that moment on, we started creating content. We started going to car shows. The content that he created led him to a job at the very early age of 13 and a half. He started creating content, and that particular day shaped my son’s life going forward.
One day, one drive…
It just goes to show you that everything in life can change on a dime. In a day, in a second, you can be influenced positively or negatively. This was the turning point in my son’s direction in life. He developed an interest in social media, computers, and photography. He also became interested in all things cars, JDM, and Japanese. That day changed my son’s life.
Today, he sent me a photo of the car that we ended up selling due to some terrible circumstances. But that’s a story for another blog. As we looked through this and reminisced about this car, even though we had to sell it, I kind of came to the conclusion that that car had a purpose. And that purpose was to shape my son’s life.
A car, a drive, and the shaping of a life.
