How Did I Get To Indonesia

What a journey…

It started as a favour for a long-time friend of mine, Manoj Punjabi. A simple favour that led me to this incredible journey. So it was 6 years ago on August 1 that I embarked on this journey of moving from Canada to Jakarta Indonesia.

I always say that your life can change in a second…

We do not know what is around the corner and what can happen when you step through the door that has been placed in your path. Feeling like the old game show Let’s Make a Deal, many individuals are afraid to make any deal or even terrified of stepping up to play.

Would You Do It?

Many people are afraid to even open the door and never mind stepping through it. Would you switch countries and go for it or would you hide, close your eyes and run from the possibility of change?

Sure, it took me about two weeks of thinking and many discussions with my son. You see my son for one was and is a very responsible young man. Without him, I would not be here in Bali writing this blog. I had many discussions over meals, coffee and sitting on the couch late at night over this.

As our family business closed in Canada 13 years or so ago, I needed a change.

When my friend Manjon asked me to help out MD Pictures to shoot a part of a film in Toronto, I helped out. When Manoj came, we met and talked about my current job and where MD Pictures was heading, he offered me to be the COO for MD. I took the job and here I am now.

One Year

I was supposed to stay for a year… Well, that got extended and I stayed in Jakarta. Then we had that little thing called COVID. This was hard, not only did I stay longer but no one could travel, and the world was a mess. Our vaccines here were not recognized by Canada for a long time. Lots of video calls were made to keep in touch with my family and my stay was extended.

So I stayed. I was lucky enough to have been able to work things out with my son, and my employer.

During my time in Jakarta and MD Pictures, I am happy to say that I met amazing people and was involved with the Studio, RDM Publishings and Jakarta Film Studios.

However, as all good things do, this too came to an end when I decided to move on and take a job in Bali with a skincare company. There were many positive aspects to working in Jakarta and MD. But as known by my friends/employer. I always wanted to live in Bali and here I am.

This change allowed me to write and continue with a passion that has been with me since the age of 12. While I no longer work for the skincare company, I do business consulting and continue with my writing. Plus I get to live in Paradise on the Island Of The Gods, in Bali Indonesia. All this because I helped out a friend.

Zsolt Zsemba

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
