The Swarm
It felt as if we were now in the middle of a fire and surrounded by a swarm of dark clouds of smoke. The light had dissipated and like ants, they began engulfing us and that is when the stench began. This God-awful smell of death, decay, and human waste mixed together with painful bumps to our ribcages and heads.
There was no way of knowing what part of our bodies to protect from the now aggressive entities in the dark. We should have been equipped with helmets and bats. It seemed that when we swung at them, our arms swung clear through the entities but when they attacked it hurt. We were not forced to the ground, we dropped to our knees and I was back to back with Steve.
Slowly the forest filled with screams, screams were that of our own as the strikes and attacks became more and more fierce. I swear I could feel blood oozing from some of my wounds but I had no way of knowing. I was too busy trying to protect my head. The attack became much more aggressive and my head was now aching from the bumps and bangs as well as the stench.
I had to keep my eyes closed, the smell was so irritating and the hits were getting harder and harder. I felt Steve collapse behind me. He must have been hit hard and collapsed. I was unsure at this point since I was busy doing my best to stay somewhat upright. Each time I moved I was countered by something else. By now I was near exhaustion, I was not sure if I was hallucinating but the deep rumbles started up again.
The deep rumble and the constant swarm of attacks were too much to handle. My body was sore, my eyes were closed as tight as they could be and my nose was filled with such smells that I was overloaded inside, and outside, and physically drained to the point of utter exhaustion. I could hear the deep rumble getting closer and closer and as the vibrations in my body grew I fell to the ground on top of Steve. My limp body lay on the ground. My last thought was, the leeches are going to eat me, I am going to die. The deep vibration took over and I blacked out.
