How hard is it to blog each day?
This is an interesting question. Yes I know I asked it myself but the way this goes is… I did an online course many years ago from a guy in Connecticut and he always said;
A writer writes every day, the same way you show up to work every day.
This little bit of information is super useful if you are trying to write. Sure we can all call in sick and take a sick day. That’s not the point. Unless you are dying you can write. That is the point here. Show up at your laptop as if it is the office. You show up to write each and every day.
But, but, but…
No, but’s here. Show up to work, that’s all. Sometimes your performance sucks and you may feel you need 10 cups of coffee to get your shit together, but you write something.
Much like a workout and much like getting yourself out of bed, it’s something you get used to doing. Eventually, the words will flow. My plan for the year was to write a blog a day and so here I am. I have written 365 pages which could translate into a pretty decent book. Each blog is a page of Microsoft Word. It’s not a bad book. Each page contains about 500 words, give or take so we are talking 180,000 words in a year. Not bad for a part-time gig and a hobby to say the least. Sure I have had some photo dumps of trips and some poems that may be less. But then some blogs were a bit longer than a page.
How do I write?
This is a question I get asked often. I prefer to fly by the seat of my pants and sit before my laptop as if it is a teacher in school.
Sit and write like a good little boy.
I will start off with one thing that is kinda, sorta mapped out in my mind, much like this blog. I sat and decided to write about how I write and this is how it happens. Stuff comes out of my head and my fingers do the work.
Most of the time… As my editor can tell you, my fingers cannot keep up with my brain. I miss, misspell and add words that do not belong to the sentence of the paragraph I am writing. However, that’s ok because I am working towards a goal.
The only people that don’t make mistakes are the ones that don’t do anything.
I like that line and of course, with Janet’s help we have done it and we will complete 365 blogs in a year. So how hard is it? How hard is it to blog for 365 days? I will say it is not crazy hard, but damn it at times I felt I was behind the eight ball and struggled to stay ahead.
That was my biggest challenge. If I didn’t have 4-5 blogs scheduled I felt I was getting crushed by my own goal. So the top piece of advice is to stay on top of it all and make some sort of plan. Now I planned to take most of my ideas from my TikTok and work in conjunction with my small business support on TikTok. However, the biggest thing was to draw on my past experiences. This includes many, many, stories and experiences and personal life. That was the easiest way to start when I decided to do the blog. So there you go… That is how I did it with Janet’s help and that is how I plan to wrap all this up.

I tend to blog in advance. On Trip By Trip, we have today 99 blog posts schedules for the future. 🤷♂️

That’s good. When we report on a trip, we spread it out to once a week. So for instance 10 posts about a Germany trip will be spread out over 10 weeks instead of a block of three weeks.

I am by myself. So I usually do my TikTok and the blog together. Often similar content presented in a different way. In the beginning the blog was driven by TikTok content from places I visited in Bali. It sure has helped me grow.
