Natural Lodge. Bali Indonesia 50

Picking a Place in Bali.

Picking a place on Airbnb can be as interesting as gambling in Vegas. However, the odds are in your favor if you do some research and fancy Google mapping.

I have lived in Bali for a while. When I decide to move around, I check out the areas and scour the net for information, look at Booking.com and read the Airbnb reviews as well. I make sure to use Google Street view as much as possible to check the surrounding areas. One can also see how alive the area is and see if businesses have closed or not in the vicinity. This makes breakfast, lunch, and dinner much easier, as well as necessities. How far the nearest convince store is, is important and one can check traffic in the area at different times of the day.

My Research.

The Natural Lodge came up on my search and upon seeing it I wanted it. As usual, I had to do my research. While I did check out all the reviews and the writeups I also checked the description of the location.

Interestingly, translations do not always turn out well. For example, a translation for “cleaning every other day” may turn out as “cleaning almost every day”. Now I speak enough Bahasa to know what they mean but many foreigners may shy away from such a place because it sounds weird. My little place however drew me to it more and more. So, when I booked it, I was like, whatever it is, it is only 30 days. However, I was glad I chose it.

My Place.

I was traveling from Ubud to Balian Beach Tabanan. I visited this location a year earlier at the height of the pandemic. The words sleepy little town would have been an understatement.

This place is two hours from the airport and while it is quite remote, I loved every minute of it. As I neared the location, it was indeed exactly where I thought it would be according to my map and I drove into the small village.

The village setting was exactly that. A rural quaint village with a warm feeling. As I was to find out later, I was staying with Pak Agung, who is a priest in the village.

My Host.

I was surprised to find out that my host is a priest. In Bali, a priest is different than a North American priest. Pak Agung’s dad was a priest, and his grandfather was a priest. It runs in the family and the priest is born into being a priest.

He does not choose to be a priest; he is born into being one. This birthright comes with responsibilities one must live up to. I was lucky enough to be able to join the community in two amazing ceremonies. I learned so much from my time in Tabanan and will surely visit again.

What I learned here above all else was that respect between all people is a must. I learned that the community here is far, far better than any community I have ever been a part of here or in my many locations in Canada.

The respect, sense of family, and community are incredible here. I must thank Pak Agung and the small community I have grown to admire. All this because I chose to stay at the Natural Lodge and with Pak Agung. Pak, thank you so much for the memories.

After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
