Have you had a boss like this? Part 6

The smart-ass Bosses

The case of the terrible boss. I like to think that I treat and treated people fairly and honestly.

Having played semi pro soccer and coached as well, personally I like working as a team.

Where each person plays on their strengths and the team assists in the areas of weakness. Weakness is a terrible word actually.  We are all good at certain things and may not be well suited or do not like other things.

The S.W.O.T!

I hate the word hate. However, I strongly dislike it when certain bosses think they know everything about everything.

No one knows everything and that is why we have specialists. While we do not call them specialists in a place of work. Unless you work at a hospital, you will not have a brain surgeon at the office.

What we do have are department heads, managers, marketing and accounting experts for example. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and if we took an assessment that would prove it.

So why the smart-ass boss?

Because that smart-ass boss is not a leader. That smart-ass know-it-all boss who thinks they know everything has employees for a reason.

There is no shame in saying you do not know something. You don’t know what you don’t know. If we all knew everything, we would all be in very different places in our lives.

So, what can we do with a smart-ass boss? Carefully and strategically pick their brains and see if they are smart on a certain topic. Ask questions and educate yourself about your adversary that should be your ally, your coach and mentor.

Not a team player…

A smart-ass boss will not be a team player. They are closer to the narcissist boss because they think they know.

They may have friends who are bankers and they learned a little about that topic. Same could be said for marketing etc. However, your boss may be an engineer and knows very little about anything else but the product the company produces.

In the end, it’s a company effort. A company without a good leader and a good boss, better have good people as managers or in the upper levels of management, that do know what they are doing. If a boss cannot be a leader let others lead.

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
