How I became a writer. Part 15

Part 15

What I had realized in this relatively short journey of mine at the time was this. Even though I was not a fan of horror movies in general. I would fall asleep at The Conjuring no matter how scary it was. But I was drawn to the genre and most of my work in the back of my head was telling me I need to write horror.

Honestly, I was reluctant to enter that world because I was not a fan. But as things would have it, I went down the rabbit hole and eventually began to scrape away at the horror idea and I was having fun with it.

Most of the time, as I mentioned before I brew ideas in my head and these ideas were brewing…

I would have several ideas and plots in my head it was not hard to keep them separate. These plots were brewing in my head I continued with a teen story titled Four Letters. This too was a strong female lead and involved some bullying and revenge.

The revenge part of the book… Well as I look back I was most likely writing it with a touch of horror in mind.

Now I feel it was a setup for the next book. But at the time I was totally unaware of the horror aspect. But the way the main character acts and feels I will assume the horror genre was coming through. Four Letters is a teen-based story that deals with everyday life but with a twist.

“What would you do to a cheating ex if there were no consequences?”

Well, this story took a bit of a turn. About halfway through I took a turn. Though the book stayed true till the end it does have a touch of anger, revenge and hate in it.

But I was almost in a hurry to finish Four letters since I had this other crazy idea already bursting at the seams. I am sure that we all feel a sense of accomplishment when we finish a book or even a project.

There is a sense of satisfaction and joy mixed with relief and sorrow. When the numerous characters no longer play. In Elax and the White Witch, it was the kids. Lina in Four Letters and so on. They are all an extension of you, us and our thoughts. So how I became a writer… Well in many ways it was accidental, it was choices and chances mixed in with much effort and determination.

But above all, what I learned and what the takeaway is, is that if you like to write, write.

It doesn’t matter what it is actually, if you like something, just do it. If it makes you happy, just do it.

Zsolt Zsemba has worn many different hats. He has been an entrepreneur, and businessman for over 30 years. Living abroad has given him many amazing experiences in life and also sparked his imagination for writing. After moving to Canada from Hungary at the age of 10 and working in a family business for a large part of his life. The switch from manufacturing to writing came surprisingly easily for him. His passion for writing began at age 12, mostly writing poetry and short stories. In 1999, the chance came to write scripts. Zsolt took some time off from his family business to write in Jakarta Indonesia for MD Entertainment. Having written dozens of soap operas and made for TV movies, in 2003 Zsolt returned to the family business once more. In 2018, he had the chance to head back to Asia once again. He took on the challenge to be the COO for MD Pictures and get back into the entertainment business. The entertainment business opened up the desire to write once more and the words began to flow onto the pages again. He decided to rewrite a book he began years ago. Organ House was reborn and is a fiction suspense novel while Scars is a young adult drama focused on life’s challenges. After the first two books, his desire to write not only became more challenging but enjoyable as well. After having several books completed he was convinced to publish them for your enjoyment. Zsolt does not tend to stay in one specific genre but tends to lean towards strong female leads and horror. Though he also has a few human interest books, he tends to write about whatever brews in his brain for a while.
