Part 14
When Covid hit, I was working from home. When the commute was cut down and we all went to Zoom meetings it gave me more time. I was able to focus even more on writing. This was a blessing in disguise. Though I would rather that Covid didn’t happen it sure gave me a boost to start writing even more.
Working at home became a great way to intensify my writing. I was able to focus more. No need to worry about going to the office. Put on your shorts and T-shirt and head to the laptop.
The days began earlier than usual since all I had to do was go to the laptop and start.
My routine was simple. Up at about 6 am. Eat breakfast, get ready and talk to family and friends, answer some emails and off I went. (This was the benefit of living in different time zones.) I had a local radio station, Female FM that I always had on since my beloved 97.3 Toronto station stopped transmitting to Indonesia one day.
I am sure that my drive and obsession had some positive effects on my writing.
I was showing up to work, it was my work and my passion to write. My storytelling was well on the way by 7:30 to 8:00 and this was my most productive time.
I am always on my game between 7 to about 12. Those few hours are much like a sprint and after lunch is more of a jog. By the time my afternoon coffee rolls around at 2 pm, I was walking and I would usually stroll to the finish line by 3 pm.
After that, I usually look over what I had managed to pound out on the keyboard and touch up things. However, if I felt good, I would stay and write until 5 to 6 pm. On days like those, I felt as if I was hit by a truck. I would be sore; my muscles would ache and need some severe stretching.
After all this, I realized that getting the thoughts out of my head during the process was important. It allowed me to feel as if I had accomplished something.
Organ House, Scars and Elax and the White Witch was a huge accomplishment.
But what would come next would be terrifying…

You have such an interesting writing life there. And your schedule sounds amazing too. I share a similar schedule, but I also fit in one hour of exercise before 3pm. I also operate on a 6am–3pm chunk, after which I start cooking, and the rest of the day is a jog, just like yours. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Stuart, thanks for the comment. I usually did burpees in between. But weekends was tennis.
